frequently asked questions
How do I know it will work?
I have seen dozens of nervous people learn to become very good speakers and to enjoy speaking too! If your fear is confined to public speaking it is an extreme version of the nervousness that most people experience. By applying similar methods with a small group of people in the same position and who support each other to succeed, I am highly confident that this will work for you.
How big is the group?
The maximum number of participants will be eight. Courses may be cancelled if there are fewer than six.
Will I have to do speeches?
No one will force you to do anything you don’t want to do, but the idea is to get you comfortable with presenting to the group and outside the group. We will start within your comfort zone and then gradually expand this.
I have social anxiety – is this suitable for me?
This course is designed for people with a specific fear of public speaking. If you suffer anxiety when you meet new people, then you should consider some form of counselling in the first instance. The course may be suitable for you, but I would encourage you to seek the advice of a qualified professional first.
I am just a little nervous – is this suitable for me?
Remember that almost everyone fears public speaking to some degree. Other public speaking courses or clubs are ideal for people who are a bit nervous and need to gain confidence. Toastmasters is a particularly cost- effective option to consider. Fear-less public speaking is designed specifically for people who are more fearful than the average person. If you are unsure, please contact me and I can discuss your needs.
Does the course involve impromptu speaking?
Our courses do not include impromptu speaking on random topics. While there is value in practicing impromptu speaking, some people find it very intimidating. Our view is that impromptu speaking is something you can try later when you get more confident. Our courses will include exercises where you have limited preparation time, but they are not impromptu and they will be more like the type of situation you may encounter in the workplace or at a meeting.
